F. & A.M. explore the German Masonic heritage
Schiller Lodge F. & A.M. No. 263, Detroit, Michigan turned in their charter and thereby ended the more than 125 year long history of the only lodge in Michigan originally chartered to do the work in the German language. Along with this the annual German night, attended and remembered by my Brethren from near and far, came also to an end. The brethren attending this event, many of them coming back year after year, enjoyed the hospitality, food and “Gemuetlichkeit”.
As Past Master of the lodge and former captain of the German Degree Team I wondered how a German night could be revived and concluded:
Why not in Germany itself together with a really memorable trip.
This tour is designed to show Freemasons and their Ladies some of the work their operative Gothic era brethren were capable of doing and can be admired in the Cathedrals in Cologne and Strasbourg.
You will see the accomplishments of some more modern day masons as evident in the palace and castles, such as King Ludwig’s fairytale castle Neuschwanstein and his palace on the island of Herrenchiemsee.
You will visit historic sights and places, like Hitler’s Eagle’s nest and the memorial at the Dachau concentration camp.
Travel on parts of the Romantic Road to the medieval walled town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber and on part of the German Clock Road thru the Black Forest.
Visit the wine town of Ruedesheim, the university town of Heidelberg, the Imperial town of Nuremberg, the well preserved old town of Bamberg and Richard Wagner’s town of Bayreuth.
Enjoy a drive thru the Bavarian Alps and stroll around the quaint idyllic villages like Oberammergau and Berchtesgaden.
You will meet German Brethren (with lodges in many towns all over Germany we will try to arrange visits by local brethren at most stops of your journey) and a lodge visit will be planned in one of the area lodges.
Take a 2 hour cruise along the stretch of the Rhine river housing a concentration of castles not found anywhere else in the world. Sample the excellent wines Germany has to offer during a wine tasting at one of the area vineyards.
You will view many sights that make Bavaria famous, also experience Salzburg, the town of Mozart, one of Europe’s most famous Mason and the gardens and trick fountains of the chateau Hellbrunn.
And for the Ladies an afternoon at the spa is planned.
Once your dates are established, we will work diligently to find special events to attend during your stay, like concerts, festivals or theater performances.
